Here’s a small cultural detour before I tell you what I’m really looking for. Bear with me — I promise it leads somewhere worth going. Confucianism is one of history’s great civilizational achievements. It shaped the social fabric of China, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and beyond, offering harmony, discipline, and a remarkable sense of collective purpose. But like most grand systems designed by men, it came with a blind spot: women were placed at the very center of family life — and yet kept firmly out of the light. Essential, tireless, skilled — and largely unheard. On the other side of the world, a different story was being written. In 19th-century Europe, the Romantics — Byron and Shelley in England, Goethe in Germany, Hugo and Stendhal in France — dared to imagine something unusual: a relationship between a man and a woman built on feeling, on mutual recognition, on the idea that love could be a meeting of equals. It was idealistic, perhaps naive, and frankly a bit chaotic. But it planted a seed. I grew up in France, shaped by that tradition — its warmth, its tendency to take love seriously, its (occasionally exhausting) belief that relationships are worth thinking about. What I’m looking for is simple to describe, and genuinely difficult to build: A relationship where two people help each other grow. Where each person is heard, respected, supported in who they are — not who the other needs them to be. No performance, no hierarchy, no scorecard. Just two people, curious about each other and about life, constructing something together from what they already are. I call it “a sweet utopia” — because I know it takes work, and I’m not naive about that. But I believe it’s possible. If this resonates with you, I’d love to talk. Not to convince you of anything — just to see if we might be the right people to try. i have to say that i spent two years learning chinese and japanese languages at Paris university... a very long time ago
