I live in a rural area just outside the small city where I have worked for 40 years before retiring. I enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities. Inside are 2 cats, the internet, home renovations, and researching subjects of interest. Outside, I own my house and 20 hectares of natural land: not fertile enough for farming, it is forest, pasture, and some swamps. I love nature, feed the birds, walk with my 60kg dog every day along trails that I have cleared on my property. I have a tractor, which I use for landscaping, improvements, moving bulk materials, clearing snow in winter, etc. I like to construct new buildings and try to repair old ones on my property. I have 1 neighbor across the public gravel road, the next house is 400m away. So it is quite peaceful and private. I prepare enough firewood in summer, to heat my house with a wood-burning stove in winter (October to April). I am educated, intelligent, curious about everything, constantly learning and increasing my knowledge. I know a little bit about nearly every subject under the sun. I know a lot about just 2 or 3 subjects. I enjoy teaching others, thinking, and challenging conversations or discussions. But I generally do activities alone because no one else wants to do them with me. I go rarely to the city because I love where I live. I would like a little romance, but I'm not really looking for a spouse. I never married in my life, had no children (which I regret), but have lived with a woman for a number of years in my life. I'm not afraid of being alone, but I prefer the company of a female partner. I have travelled to all of Canada, much of the USA, Europe and parts of South East Asia. I have lived in large cities for about 20 years of my life, as well as remote rural areas and forests. I would like to have interesting conversations with a woman as we get to know each other. In the past, I have traveled long distances (as far as Thailand) to meet in person, people that I have met online. If you have set an age limit on men, I will only contact you if my age is within 5 years of your highest acceptable age (I am 71 years old). I set a young limit on women, of 40, but its not an absolute limit, because people are all different. But I do expect a certain level of maturity from the people that I talk with. Also, I speak only English, so conversations can be translated, but we are unlikely to ever meet in person if you cannot converse in fairly good English. I have learned this myself in person. I can read French, but not speak it much nor understand speech. Communication and understanding is difficult enough when both people speak the same language, but almost impossible if they can only speak different languages. I know quite a bit about several Asian countries (China, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, India, because I have studied them and i have visited India, Nepal, Thailand twice and HongKong (culture, government, religion, economics, history). I was in Thailand for 30 days in April 2023, immediately after I retired. Perhaps we can have some interesting conversations.

I am looking for a long-term relationship. Some people put this long list of things they want in a partner. I see it in a much simpler way, I want someone I enjoy being with. The best thing I have to offer is the benefit of the 100s of mistakes and 1000s of errors I’ve made. I know the difference between whats important and what isnt. Adversity has molded me but its never defeated me. I am grateful that all the mistakes I’ve made have helped me have a high level of self-awareness. I think my single most defining characteristic is my intellectual curiosity. I am an autodidact and I learned that word all by myself. I want somebody with integrity and who is sincere. A relationship with someone without them is doomed. Once I reach a certain age I realized that a good partner is hard to find, and so when you do get one, you had better be really nice to them, so that they stay with you; because if you lose them, you might never find someone to replace them with. I have been dealing with medical issues for the past 5 years, so I’ve not been dating at all and the lack of female companionship has made me gain a new appreciation of female companionship and all the good things that go with it. Holding hands seems like a big deal when you haven’t done it in 5 years, so I don’t want to hold hands with just anyone! ? I didn’t always appreciate my parents enough, next time will be different. This period has given me time to reflect on my own shortcomings as a partner, and I feel confident I can overcome them. I am, in some ways, more like my ex-s wanted me to be, but I still hate Michael Bolton! People would describe me as quiet, funny and a polymath. I am very creative in many different ways. I have often esoteric taste in music, travel, writers… I am skeptic but not a cynic. I dislike dogma and rhetoric of any kind. I do not follow any political ideology. I think men who try and have sex on a first date are extremely ignorant. I have been reading some women’s erotic literature recently to learn. I really want a monogamous relationship and I am willing to invest more in it, in some ways, than I did in the past. I have many unfulfilled aspirations..
